Who Jan Is

A designer who also runs the build

Jan Revels has practiced interior design in Dallas since 1997, and launched Chateau Concepts, LLC in 2001. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from the University of North Texas and is an ASID Allied Professional Interior Designer. Nearly nearly three decades of that work has been in the same neighborhoods — the Park Cities, Preston Hollow and North Dallas — which is why she knows the houses, and the workrooms that meet their standard.

What separates her practice from most design firms is the second half of the job. Many designers hand a set of drawings to a builder and hope. Jan takes on the general contracting herself — scheduling trades, ordering and tracking materials, walking the site and holding the work to the standard the drawings set. When something unexpected turns up behind a wall, the person deciding what to do about it is the person who designed the room.

Her range is unusually wide: Traditional, Eclectic, Contemporary, Old World, Mid-Century Modern, Rustic, Mediterranean, Retro, and, in her own words, “just plain funky.” That range comes from a simple position — the style that matters is the client’s. Her job is to listen first, then translate what she hears into rooms that work beautifully and feel like home.

How the guides on this site are written

Every guide in Insights is written from Jan’s own project experience and reviewed by her before it is published. That review is the point: the guidance is what she would tell a client sitting across the table, not what ranks well.

Guides are updated as practice, products and local requirements change.
